Several fires kept local firefighting agencies busy on Saturday.

The Vancouver Fire Department responded at 2:24 a.m. to a house fire at 9410 N.E. 108th Ave. Capt. Joe Spatz said three engines and 14 firefighters were on the scene.

They found a windowless attic room halfway full of smoke, and cut a hole in the roof to let the smoke out and restore visibility, Spatz said. After that, they located and extinguished a small, smoldering fire.

Disaster responders were on the scene by 8 a.m. to assist two adults, two children and their pets, according to a statement by the local American Red Cross.
