Camas police say a man is in custody after he allegedly shot and seriously injured his sister’s boyfriend with a rifle Wednesday evening.

Matthew T. Turner, 23, was arrested at the scene for suspicion of first-degree assault and booked into the Clark County Jail. He is expected to make his first court appearance this morning.

Camas police was called to the scene of a shooting, 3345 S.E. Third Ave., just after 5 p.m. Wednesday and found Miguel Fernandez, 29, with a single gunshot wound to his right shoulder, police said.

Fernandez is in a dating relationship with Turner’s sister, Camas police said, and the incident appears to have been related to a domestic disturbance. All of the people involved live at the residence where the shooting occurred, according to Camas police.

He was taken to an area hospital with injuries described as not life threatening and is reportedly in serious but stable condition, Camas police said.

Police recovered a lever action rifle, identified as the weapon used during the assault, at the scene.
