Clark Talks: Podcast explores public defense, mayoral race

By Dameon Pesanti, Columbian staff writer
Published: August 24, 2017, 6:00am

In this week’s Clark Talks, Columbian reporters Jake Thomas and Dameon Pesanti talk with local defense attorney Jeff Barrar about the prospect of Clark County reorganizing its indigent defense system.

For many years the county has contracted with private law firms, such as Barrar’s Vancouver Defenders, to represent criminal defendants who cannot afford counsel. The county is considering hiring in-house attorneys to assume part of the caseload.

Then Pesanti and co-host Katie Gillespie talk with Vancouver mayoral candidate Anne McEnerny-Ogle about her decision to run for office.

The show ends with a roundup of local events this weekend and beyond with community events maven Ashley Swanson.

The show is available for free on Soundcloud, iTunes, Stitcher or wherever you get your podcasts.
