PORTLAND — A woman strangled her friend to death, then stabbed him before she turned herself into police Tuesday afternoon, according to court records.

Paris James McConville told police she killed Ryan D. Thompson in self-defense during a fight at Thompson’s Southwest Portland apartment Monday evening, according to a probable cause affidavit written by Deputy District Attorney Bumjoon Park and filed in Multnomah County Circuit Court on Wednesday.

McConville, 34, went to the Portland Police Station shortly after 3 p.m. Tuesday. McConville told police she “killed Mr. Thompson and deserved to be punished,” the affidavit said. She had no visible injuries.

Earlier court records identified McConville as male, but the affidavit identified McConville as a woman. A Multnomah County sheriff’s spokesman said Wednesday McConville is being held in a gender-neutral jail cell.

McConville said she and Thompson had been friends for a decade, but they fought frequently, the affidavit said.

During a fight Monday, McConville told police she strangled Thompson, then stabbed him, according to the affidavit. She told police at one point during the fight, she texted Thompson to tell him she had a knife.

Using a key McConville gave them, officers went to Thompson’s apartment in the 700 block of S.W. St. Clair Ave. Inside, they found Thompson’s body in a bathtub. His belongings, including his wallet, were in the bathroom sink. Long strips of packing tape were found on Thompson’s hands.

McConville later told police she killed Thompson by a bed, then moved his body to the bathroom, put his belongings in the sink and taped Thompson’s hands.

The medical examiner later determined Thompson was strangled to death. He also had a stab wound on his arm and had been hit on the back of his head, the affidavit said.

McConville is charged with murder and unlawful use of a weapon.
