Letter: Herrera Beutler not for constituents

Most economic experts agree that the Tax Cut and Jobs Act will benefit only the wealthy and disadvantage the working poor and middle class. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, seems proud to support this bill.

Concurrently, she objects to tolling by Oregon on their roads. She does not argue that such tolling would be regressive in that it would tax users only, again punishing the working poor and middle class. She seems to use it only as an opportunity to generate blind support from her “no taxes” supporters. This is poor representation, indeed, and doesn’t solve the problem of increasing traffic congestion, hurting our area and economy.

Southwest Washington residents need a forward-looking representative who consistently looks out for the middle class and workers, someone who supports bipartisan tax reform and who would push for an infrastructure bill. Such a bill will improve the local economy and create jobs.

Herrera Beutler’s record shows that she votes with President Trump 90 percent of the time. By not holding town halls, she has lost touch with the views of her constituents. It’s time for a change to someone who will solve problems and support better policies to benefit our community.
