Smarter Lunchroom program looks to make healthy decisions easy

Fircrest — Washington State University Extension’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program Education and Chartwells teamed up to start implementing some smarter lunchroom strategies at the school. Smarter Lunchrooms is a nationwide movement that aims to nudge students toward selecting the healthiest foods in the lunchroom at school by building the lunchroom so that the healthiest choice is the easy choice. At Fircrest Elementary School, colorful signs were hanging in the cafeteria, which made students stop to read the posters. Some were seen checking the amount of sugar in a chocolate milk after one of the posters was about decreasing sugar.
