Weather Eye: Rains, possibly some icing, should arrive Friday morning

The weather of late is almost a repeat of the day before. At least we seem to be warming overnight with the low Wednesday morning in Vancouver at 26 degrees. That beats the low Tuesday of 22 degrees. Highs remain stuck at or close to 45 degrees.

The varying amount of high clouds the past two days has sure brought us some outstanding sunrises and sunsets. Brilliant orange and reds. We will see more high clouds today as a weak weather system inches its way to us.

The moisture should arrive after sunrise Friday and be in the liquid form most everywhere except in some colder valleys and in the Gorge. If rain arrives before sunrise Friday there could be some light icing here in Clark County. Just want to mention it but the odds are low at this point.

I mentioned here Tuesday that next week looks a bit cloudy in the forecaster’s crystal ball. Most likely we’ll have some showers but on the lighter side. This weekend is looking better as well, as the main strength of these disturbances slides by to our north.

This is what I wrote in my Dec. 12, 2011 column, “Officially, Vancouver has recorded only 0.04 of an inch of rain this month, about 2 1/3 inches below normal. The average mean temperature is nearly 6 degrees below average, making this one of the coldest Decembers in the record books. And all of this without any arctic air settled in over us. Maybe things will change next week to a more typical December pattern.”

Just change the rainfall to .38 of an inch, leave in the 2 1/3 inches below normal and place 2.5 degrees below normal for the average mean temperature. The other wording would stay. See you on Sunday!
