The Battle Ground Community Development Department will start issuing its own fire permits and project inspections within its city limits beginning Jan. 2.

Fire permitting and inspections are currently handled through the Clark County Fire Marshal’s Office, according to a city of Battle Ground press release.

“With the addition of a fire marshal position to the city of Battle Ground, the service is now available locally,” the release says.

Chris Drone, the city’s first-ever fire marshal, started a job with Fire District 3 in June. Battle Ground contracts with the fire district for emergency services and helps pay for the new position.

According to the city, permitting includes things like fire extinguishing and smoke removal systems, fire alarms and hazardous materials, among other fire-related permits.

Fire permit applications, fire permit inspection requests and fire safety code information are available on the city of Battle Ground’s website.
