A Vancouver woman was sent to the hospital with life-threatening injuries after she was struck by a car when trying to cross Northeast Covington Road Wednesday afternoon.

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office said investigators found Sharina Luper, 39, and her boyfriend went to cross Covington around  Northeast 100th Avenue, which is an unlighted intersection.

Luper stepped into the path of a Volkswagen Passat wagon heading south. The car hit her, and she was taken to a hospital after medical personnel arrived.

The sheriff’s office said the Volkswagen driver, Nufar Tedorov, 78, stayed at the scene and has been cooperative with deputies.

The sheriff’s office’s traffic unit was investigating the collision. The crash and response caused temporary closures along Covington Road.
