Letter: Positive news from Congress

Thanks for the positive news and stories of good deeds; they help us focus on the positive (“In Our View: Cheers & Jeers,” Dec. 23).

Sharing some good news from Congress: bipartisan work on helping children in our world get an education. What? Yes, 263 million children and youth are not in school. Enter bipartisan resolutions in the House (H.Res. 466) and Senate supporting the Global Partnership for Education, which already has more than 80 co-sponsors. With new funding next year, the GPE will help countries give 25 million of their children a chance to change their lives with education. With education: better health, higher wages, and less conflict, improving 25 million futures. Join the positive news: Call your senators and representatives and ask them to make sure this bipartisan work passes. Though America’s pledge is less than 4 percent of the GPE’s total, it is our commitment that inspires other donors. So make a call, be a part of bringing hope and a better future to 25 million smiling faces.
