Letter: Whale of a benefit

I appreciated the opinions expressed in “In Our View: Ball Now in Inslee’s Court” (Dec. 22) regarding the anticipation of our governor’s decision on the proposed oil terminal at the Port of Vancouver. We’ve been watching this project from afar (in the San Juan Islands) because, believe it or not, what is decided for the Columbia River will affect our way of life in this far Northwest corner. The health of the Columbia River and its salmon directly relates to the health of the Southern Resident Killer Whales — the fragile and beloved icons of our island economy and culture. Thanks to The Columbian and all who are working towards protecting our state’s mighty river!
