I felt it was important to reach out on a voice mail from Jaime Herrera Beutler’s office that came in this evening. I signed up for town hall notifications on her website in hopes of chatting with her while she’s in town. Many of my peers did the same as we have concerns that we want to express to her.
I missed her call this evening, which came at about 7:10 p.m. The pre-recorded voice mail indicated that I had missed out on a telephone town hall opportunity, with no information on how to connect with my representative. The voice mail also expressed that they wanted me to join future town halls but provided no indication on when that may be. Based on what I’ve seen on Facebook and Twitter, it sounds like many people I know encountered the same voice mail. None of us received an email from her prior to the town hall meeting, and I confirmed with my friends that we were all on her email list. I don’t feel like this is purely anecdotal; it sounds like many people received this voice mail.
There is no reason for this. We asked her to keep us in the loop and have gone through the proper channels, and this is the most disrespectful response she could have given us. We want to be engaged and she is not giving us that platform.
Please help give our community a platform. I believe in the media and feel strongly about having a voice, and I hope you can get our message out. We want to be heard.
