I hope Gov. Jay Inslee rejects the Tesoro-Savage oil terminal because the recent derailment of a coal train in Vancouver and the oil train fire in Mosier, Ore., both remind us how dangerous rail transport is and can be. The possibilities of an oil train derailment, explosion and fire with volatile fuel leaking just blocks away from our backyards, sidewalks, streets, schools, homes, businesses and the shores of the Columbia River are immense and terrifying. We have seen it happen in Mosier, Ore., and elsewhere. We don’t want it to happen here.
I hope Gov. Inslee will not approve the building of an oil terminal here in Vancouver.
