Letter: This was not justice

The Columbian’s Jan. 5 story “Man accused of raping girl, 15, gets 90 days” told of a girl who was raped. She did what society asks of victims; she suffered indignities of a rape kit and resulting inspections, and talked with police and prosecutors.

The Clark County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office did not diligently and vigorously prosecute this subject. Though he was convicted, the judge did not deal harshly with him.

The judge was sworn with an oath to protect the community. He has not.

The victim, her family, friends and community were not given full protection of the law.

This case buries the old standby phrase “best judicial system in the world.”

Neither the judge’s office nor the prosecuting attorney’s office can claim “we served the people.”

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
