PORTLAND — An explosion in North Portland that leveled one home and set a second on fire left two people dead, according to fire officials.
Portland Fire & Rescue responded to the two-alarm fire at 6214 N. Kerby in Portland at 2:29 p.m. Monday. Firefighters arrived to find a home destroyed by an explosion, with neighboring homes damaged and on fire. Portland fire officials said there was gas leaking when they arrived on scene.
One person was transported to an area hospital but later died of injuries. A second victim was found dead when firefighters searched the site of the explosion. The identities of the two deceased individuals are not being released at this time.
The investigation continues today. Portland fire investigators will be assisted by investigators from the Portland police and the Oregon State Police, among others.
