Many candidates on ballots for primary election

Voters to decide who moves to general election in mayoral, council races

There may not be as much drama in Tuesday’s primary as there was in last November’s general election, but several key political races are up for grabs on local city councils and school boards.

And Vancouver’s voters will narrow the field for a new mayor in choosing a successor to Mayor Tim Leavitt, who has held office since 2003.

Five candidates are running for mayor: John Carroll, Steven Cox, Adam Hamide, Greg Henderson and Anne McEnerny-Ogle.

In the race for Vancouver City Council, there are eight candidates vying for two positions.

Ballot drop-box locations

  • West 14th and Esther Streets in downtown Vancouver
  • Battle Ground City Hall parking lot, 109 S.W. 1st St.
  • Fisher’s Landing Transit Center, 3510 S.E. 164th Ave., Vancouver
  • 99th Street Transit Center, 9700 N.E. 7th Ave., Vancouver
  • Downtown Camas Post Office, 440 N.E. 5th Ave.
  • Vancouver Mall, southwest of Sears at the end of a parking row near the C-Tran Vine station

The race for Position 1 includes Scott Campbell, Nicolette Horaites, Jacob Kerr and David Roberts.

The race for Position 2 includes Michelle Beardshear, Linda Glover and Vaughn Henderson.

Here’s a look at who’s running in some of other races around the county.

In Camas, the city council candidates for Position 2 are Amanda Stamness, Emilia Brasier and Melissa Smith.

The candidates for La Center City Council Position 1 are Doug Boff, Michael Smith, and Linda Tracy.

Washougal City Council candidates for Position 6 are Nettie Morris, Adam Philbin and Julie A. Russell.

Washougal City Council Position 3 candidates are Dave Plaza, Nate Cook and Keith Bellisle. Position 6 candidates are Michael Wheaton, Benjamin Fredricks and Jeremy Heffernan.

Candidates for the Evergreen School District Number 114, School Director Number 1 are Megan Miles, Dennis Jeppson and Julie Bocanegra. School Ddirector Number 5 candidates are Ginny Gronwoldt, Janelle Tuominen, Park Llafet and James (Jimmy Tee) Taylor.

Candidates for Hockinson School District No. 98 for School Director of District No. 5 are Lorin Erickson, Scott Swindell and Gordon Smith.

Vancouver School District No. 37 for School director, Position No. 2 are Shantel Okorie, Anthony R. Licerio and Mark F. Stoker.

Candidates for Clark Regional Wastewater District commissioner Position 3 are Denny Kiggins, Charles (Chuck) McDonald and Jim West.

On the ballot in Yacolt is Proposition 2 tax levy, which would impose an excess property tax levy.

Also on the ballot is Clark County Fire and Rescue Proposition 1 which would restore its regular property tax levy.

Clark County Emergency Medical Service District No. 1 has Proposition 2 on the ballot, which looks to impose an excess property tax levy.

As of Friday, 30,543 ballots have been counted. The results will be released on Tuesday at 8:30 p.m.
