Letter: One way to fix Interstate 5 Bridge

By Kerry Smith, LA CENTER
Published: June 10, 2017, 6:00am

Merging traffic is the biggest cause of congestion on the section of I-5 around the Interstate Bridge. I believe that part of the solution would be changing the access to Hayden Island to a local-access bridge from Marine Drive. This would reduce much of the congestion caused by merging traffic from the Jantzen Beach shopping area. I don’t know if this has already been considered by the Oregon Department of Transportation or the City of Portland, but I think that it would be cost-effective.
