It’s great that Washington has stepped up our clean energy commitments in the absence of national leadership. The first step is to build on our state’s solar success so far. We citizens have to remind ourselves that despite fossil fuels being the energy that built America today, we all need to understand that fossil fuels are not infinite and need to begin planning for our children and grandchildren’s future. It’s too bad, but it’s a reality we need to accept.
I’ve worked at a local Vancouver solar installer — Sunbridge Solar — for over two years. I’ve seen first-hand the benefits solar brings to Washingtonians and to our economy. I have worked in many industries; this one brings skilled labor and family wages. Before working in solar, starting a family was not a possibility. Now working in solar, I’m able to now think about my future instead of how am I going to survive this month.
I’m looking to our area’s legislators to lead the way on maintaining growing our solar job market because if not us, who? If not now, when? Call your representatives and tell them you support a solar jobs bill because solar isn’t just for the wealthy anymore.
