Letter: Media needs to clean up act

A recent letter writer said the people ought to show respect to President Trump, and a critic responded that respect is something that must be earned. Absolutely correct, and judging by Trump’s weak poll ratings, he has his work cut out for him.

There is an institution in this country that the public respects even less than President Trump. That is the media. The national journalism community today is little more than a booster club for the Democratic Party. It’s about time that someone in the Republican Party finally fought back, as Trump is doing.

The 2016 election demonstrated that the media no longer have enough respect among the public to be able to swing elections to the Democrats. They can either clean up their act or resign themselves to a role of irrelevance in American politics. By their behavior since the election, so far they have chosen the latter course.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
