A judge handed down a 90-day sentence Thursday for a Vancouver man who broke another driver’s leg in a crash while driving drunk on New Year’s Day in 2016.

Bradley A. Bachmeier, 20, pleaded guilty that day to vehicular assault. According to court records, Bachmeier failed to yield while driving early morning Jan. 1 last year, and turned in front of another vehicle at Northeast 137th Avenue and 84th Street in Vancouver.

Linda Edwards, the other driver, suffered a compound leg fracture in the collision, according to court records.

A preliminary breath test and blood draws found he had alcohol in his system well above the legal limit, according to court records.

Superior Court Judge Robert Lewis sentenced Bachmeier to 90 days in jail, part or all of which may be served in a work-release program if Bachmeier is deemed eligible.

His driver’s license revoked, he will spend 12 months in community custody upon completion of his sentence and he will have to pay restitution, although the amount was to be determined.

Bachmeier addressed the court to apologize for his actions, adding he planned on never finding himself in a courtroom again.
