Clark County – Clark Conservation District is currently looking for local farmers interested in having their products certified as Salmon-Safe. The certification is a national program that’s meant to encourage agricultural operations to adopt practices aimed at protecting water quality and wildlife habitat.

The district recently received funding from the Clark County Clean Water Restoration Fund to provide free financial and technical assistance to farmers interested in the certification. Farmers who obtain the certification are evaluated on agricultural practices such riparian area management, water use, erosion control, pest management and biodiversity conservation.

Farms that obtain the certification can put a Salmon-Safe label on their products that some markets actively promote. Currently, the Salmon-Safe program and its partners have promoted certified products in more than 300 grocery stores.

For more information on the certification program or other services offered by the district, contact Denise Smee at (360) 859-4782 or dsmee@clarkcd.org.
