PORTLAND — Police say one person was fatally shot by an officer in Southeast Portland after a disturbance call.

A Portland Police Bureau spokesman says officers arrived just after 7 p.m. Wednesday to the incident near Southeast 92nd Avenue and Flavel Street.

Police say transit officers arrived first and were involved in a foot chase with the suspect onto the nearby light rail tracks.

Police say a Portland police officer assigned to the Transit Division then fired at the suspect, who died at the scene despite attempts to provide medical aid.

Police said they didn’t yet know the identity of the suspect or whether he had a weapon at the time. Police didn’t name the officer involved but said the officer would be placed on standard leave.

Multiple agencies are investigating.
