Police are investigating a confrontation early Monday morning in east Vancouver that led to gunshots.

A man told police he was with a group of friends at a rocky overlook on 192nd Avenue south of Southeast 34th Street at about 3 a.m. Monday when another group of males arrived, Vancouver Police Department spokeswoman Kim Kapp said.

The victim told police that a male in the group that had arrived pointed a gun at the him and demanded his phone and wallet, Kapp said.

The victim took off running and the suspect fired a shot at him, but missed, Kapp said.

Officers responded, but could not locate the suspect or anyone from either group, Kapp said.

The suspect was described as a 19-year-old black man, about 6 feet tall, wearing a black hoodie and black jeans, Kapp said.

The victim scraped his knee from running through bushes but was not seriously injured. He did not lose any possessions, Kapp said.
