High schoolers volunteer at School for the Blind

Central Park — Carson Mowrer, a senior at Skyview High School, and Sasha Thomas, a senior at Vancouver iTech Preparatory, volunteered at the Washington State School for the Blind on Oct. 24 to teach four students how to solve a Rubik’s Cube, a traditionally visual puzzle.

The catch was they were using a cube designed by the two students. Their cube uses tactile surfaces, such as Velcro, in place of colors.

With the new cube and some instruction from Mowrer and Thomas, the students solved the Rubik’s Cubes.
