Letter: Herrera Beutler takes wrong stance

Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, is supporting a tax-cut bill that will increase our federal deficit by $1.5 trillion over the next decade.

In 2011, Herrera Beutler co-sponsored a U.S. constitutional amendment that would require the federal government to balance its budget every year. What happened to her fiscal conservative stand? The proposed tax cut will be a sweetheart deal for the richest 1 percent and the burden of this compromise will fall on the backs of Clark County’s middle-class families, who desperately need tax relief.

Herrera Beutler doesn’t represent her constituents, as evidenced by her tone-deaf approach to her community’s needs and her unwillingness to have town hall meetings to discuss these issues. When your tax liability increases after this sleazy bill makes its way through the Washington swamp, just remember that Herrera Beutler voted for the bill that raised your taxes and exploded our deficit. Time for a change in representation.
