Subway franchise owner Mike Harbold has always looked up to friends who fostered and adopted children.

“I don’t know how they do it,” said Harbold, who has two kids of his own.

Years ago — he can’t recall exactly how long ago — he started providing cookie platters the local National Adoption Day celebration held annually by Vancouver’s branch of the Department of Social and Health Services.

It’s since expanded to feeding kids meals weekly.

As the owner of Subways in downtown and Uptown Vancouver, his restaurants are closest to the Children’s Administration offices. When a child has to come into the office, they can get Subway food. This happens maybe twice or three times every week, Harbold said.

“If not more. It depends on the situation,” he said. “It’s a way for me and my company to give back to the community.”
