Letter: Time for common-sense gun control

By Jim Moody, Vancouver

So, another week and more mass shootings. It’s almost a daily occurrence now. When are we going to take some action to try and limit these travesties? Even if citizens have the constitutional “right to bear arms,” the government has the right to place limitations on that freedom in the interest of public safety.

Driver’s licenses, speed limits, sale of drugs — all place common-sense limits on individual rights and freedoms to protect members of the public from people who would commit harmful acts. So let’s do the same with guns. No more semi-automatic rifles. No more 30-round banana clips. No more armor-piercing bullets. Let’s exercise some common sense.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
