Letter: Value freedom, think for yourself

By Jane Christensen, Camas

Our democracy was founded on some basic principles such as equality for all, separation of powers (including the separation of church and state and an independent judiciary), and freedom of the press, which implies a well-informed citizenry, to name a few.

When we vote to curb people’s rights, or vote because of a religious principle (pro life vs. medical privacy), or when our president states that he would like to be in charge of the judiciary and makes blanket statements about “fake news” vs. calling out specifics of a news story, our democracy is under attack. Please, if you value your freedoms, think for yourselves. Think, people, think! This will not “Make America Great Again.” It will and is destroying America. Time to reunite.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
