Volunteering helps students learn leadership skills

Woodland — Woodland Middle School students in leadership classes spent time volunteering at the school level and in the community, working with local charities. Robin Uhlenkott teaches the leadership classes and uses volunteer work to teach students that acting as a responsible member of the community, whether at a school or in a wider sense, directly impacts a leader’s effectiveness. Students volunteered at the Woodland Action Center, where they processed donations, stocked shelves and performed other tasks. Other students helped a local church serve lunches on Fridays to senior citizens in need, and some volunteers helped primary school students by guiding them through projects and class activities.
