Letter: Important to remember Vietnam

By Patricia J. Burk, Vancouver
Published: November 28, 2017, 6:00am

I was moved to tears when reading David Hastings’ moving story about his visit to “The Wall” (“Everybody has a story,” Nov. 15, The Columbian). I could feel the presence of all those who died to keep our country free. I have no one on the Wall, but know men who served in the Vietnam War.

That war changed men. If you’ve ever visited a Veterans Affairs facility, you will know who they are. Aging now, they wear that war on their sleeve. They have a brusqueness about them, a “don’t tread on me” attitude.

Thanks for letting us remember, and thank you.
