Two Washington residents are accused of trafficking close to nine pounds of heroin and cocaine after they were pulled over on Interstate 5 near the California border.
Adam Tyler Smith, 44, and Bonita Alvarado, 44, both of Seattle, each face felony drug possession and delivery charges after police seized 6.6 pounds of heroin and 2.2 pounds of cocaine Monday from the 2017 Nissan Maxima sedan they were driving just after noon on northbound I-5.
Smith had no form of identification on him in the car, according to police, and an Oregon State Police trooper allegedly spotted a kilo of cocaine between Alvarado’s feet while scanning for a wallet.
During a search, police said, they found three additional packages of drugs in the car that contained 6.6 lbs of heroin. Inside Alvarado’s purse, police found $1,680 in cash and a small amount of methamphetamine, court documents say.
