Two more daily round-trip runs between Seattle and Portland will start Dec. 18 at Amtrak Cascades, the Washington Department of Transportation announced Tuesday.

One train will be added in the morning and another will be added in the evening, the transportation agency said, bringing the total number of daily trips to 12.

The move was made possible by a rerouting of established trains between Tacoma and Olympia, as well as upgrades to tracks and signal systems.

The trip time is also expected to be about 10 minutes shorter, WSDOT officials said.

Tickets for the newly added trains are available at amtrakcascades.com.
