Woodland — Woodland Intermediate School second-graders received a visit from some of their elders recently: Woodland Intermediate School fourth-graders. The fourth-grade students visited with second-graders as part of the school’s Buddy Reading program, in which older students read to younger ones. The program is designed to be mutually beneficial for students in both grades. The “Big Buddies” get to further develop their literacy skills, foster leadership skills and improve their self-confidence by being around people who look up to them. The “Little Buddies” get to hear stories read aloud, talk to older students, practice familiar reading with one-on-one assistance and have positive experiences with an older student.
