Letter: Protests should be on own time

I’m not watching any more NFL games! When Tim Tebow is basically drummed out of the NFL for taking a knee in prayer in the end zone after scoring a touchdown, but these overpaid ingrates are coddled for their disrespectful kneel-downs during the national anthem, something has to be done. It’s no different than disciplining a mouthy child.

They should be reprimanded and if they continue the behavior they should be fired. They are demonstrating on company time — how many companies allow that? I know of none. Not even federal employees are allowed to do that.

Freedom of speech says that the government cannot pass laws to limit your right to express political views, but that does not cover private businesses. If people want to protest, that’s fine. But they need to do it on their own time and own dime. Whether I go to a concert or a sporting event, I go for the entertainment. I don’t go to be subjected to political protests.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
