The city of Vancouver is considering repealing the Human Services Facilities ordinance that its attorneys say discriminates against poor people. Originally adopted in 1991, it primarily regulates where services, such as a food pantries, free clinics and shelters, can be located.

The Esther Short and Hough neighborhood associations aim to bring context to the contentious issue. On Nov. 4, they’re hosting an event at the Kiggins Theatre, showing the 1991 Vancouver City Council hearing where this ordinance was discussed. There will be a panel discussion and Q&A. It starts at 10 a.m. at the downtown theater, located at 1011 Main St. Admission is a $1 donation toward the Shower Outreach Project, a shower trailer that will provide showers to homeless people around Clark County.

A news release from the Esther Short neighborhood association says this event is important for downtown stakeholders, such as business owners, residents and service providers.
