Residents can drop off unused prescription medications at different spots around the county from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The drop-off locations are:

• PeaceHealth Southwest Urgent Care, 33rd and Main St., Vancouver.

• Kaiser Permanente-Cascade Park, 12607 S.E. Mill Plain Blvd., Vancouver.

• Battle Ground Police Department, 507 S.W. 1st St., Battle Ground.

• Washougal Silver Star Search and Rescue, 1220 A St., Washougal.

Drug take-back programs prevent accidental overdoses and drug abuse by getting leftover drugs out of homes, and prevent environmental damage caused by simply tossing the drugs in the trash or down the drain.

All unwanted drugs — including controlled drugs such as pain killers and tranquilizers and non-controlled drugs such as over-the-counter medicine or sharps — will be accepted.

An April take-back event collected more than 2,800 pounds of medications from nearly 1,000 participants, according to Educational Service District 112, one of Saturday’s organizers.
