KEIZER, Ore. — A man who along with his 6-year-old daughter was pulled from a burning house fire in Keizer has died of his injuries.

KOIN-TV, citing hospital officials, reports that Miguel Ruvalcaba died late Saturday at Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland. His daughter, Brixa, remains in critical condition at Randall Children’s Hospital in Portland.

Ruvalcaba and his five children were inside their duplex in Keizer, near Salem, when the fire broke out late Thursday night. Four of the children escaped and reported the fire to their neighbors.

Fire crews rescued the father and the 6-year-old girl, but they were unresponsive.

Fire officials believe the blaze likely started in the garage. Officials said the home’s smoke alarm wasn’t working.
