BEAVERTON, Ore. — Sheriff’s deputies pulled a man from a burning car after it crashed while going the wrong way in Beaverton, Ore.
The Washington County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy was driving east on Highway 26 early Wednesday when he saw headlights coming toward him. The deputy swerved to avoid a head-on crash and radioed other deputies.
Soon, the wrong-way driver crashed into a center barrier, and the car burst into flames.
Three responding deputies used their fire extinguishers to little effect. Deputies Mark Shan and Jason Waterbury then pulled the driver from the vehicle.
The sheriff’s office says the driver was unconscious and bleeding heavily when pulled from the car, but he regained consciousness. His blood-alcohol content was almost three times the legal limit.
