Salmon Creek — Ayden, a 14-year-old Vancouver resident facing cancer, went on a special trip to Seattle recently, where he got to spend time with the Seattle Seahawks.

Ayden attended a Seahawks practice, where he met coach Pete Carroll and players Jimmy Graham and Tyler Lockett, whose jersey Ayden was wearing for his visit.

During the trip, Ayden also got to attend a preseason game. The trip was coordinated through a partnership between the Children’s Cancer Association Link program and the Austen Everett Foundation.

Ayden was one of several kids on the trip, which also included stops at the Space Needle, Seattle Aquarium and Emerald City Trolley. When Ayden was 1 year old, he contracted pneumococcal bacteremia and sepsis.

His kidney did not recover, and he was placed on dialysis for three years until he received a transplant. It was recently discovered that the immunosuppression medication he was taking allowed his body to develop a cancer called Post Transplant Lymphoproliferative Disorder, according to a release from the Children’s Cancer Association.
