Scott Dalesandro (“Future isn’t brick and mortar, March 29”) clearly hasn’t spent 10 minutes in a public school kindergarten classroom.
Dalesandro writes that many children have “already succeeded in the basic 3 Rs before kindergarten.” I teach 120 kindergartners each month and can assure you most have not; many are still practicing writing their name, naming colors and shapes, recognizing letters and counting. Yes, they need a clean, healthy, school building. As our communities grow, aging school buildings are crowded and, in some cases, unhealthy. Great schools and healthy buildings will result in well-educated children.
