Letter: Keep prohibition on animal imports

By Joan M. Tyrrell, Vancouver
Published: April 9, 2018, 6:00am

President Donald Trump has lifted the ban that President Barack Obama put in place to not allow Americans to import body parts of African elephants shot for sport.

Trump’s actions are morally corrupt and cruel. It seems he is injurious to most all he comes in contact with, including the helpless animals he has no regard for.

His son, Don Jr., is no doubt wetting his lips for the next kill. He had the audacity to hold up the bloody tail of a elephant that he had slaughtered with pride. How proud Trump must feel. Cruelty must be genetic.

Trump is like the Tin Man in “Wizard of Oz”; he has no heart or conscience.

As an animal lover and activist, I implore you to support your Humane Society, PETA or whatever animal welfare group you desire. They are our only hope to combat this slaughter of our gentle giants that travel as a family and grieve when one is killed.

My mom always taught me that you can’t do wrong and get by. Let’s hope that she was right.
