Letter: Support conservation district

I grew up on a farm in the La Center bottoms. In the 1990s and early 2000s, the Clark Conservation District did an immense amount of work on Lockwood Creek bordering our property. Afterwards, the fish returned because their habitat had been restored, access to the creek was cleared, the integrity of the banks had been reinforced, animals could again cross the creek, and a real difference was made at no cost to us.

I’m really upset that the conservation district has such financial issues, and that the council has no appetite to fund them. The conservation district is not only important to the economy and environment, but improves the quality of life for Clark County residents — making the district an ideal investment for the county council.

Everything we have is derived from the environment, and it’s our responsibility to maintain it for future generations; the Clark Conservation District is on the forefront of doing just that. The county council should support it.
