Weather Eye: Warmer, drier conditions expected to be coming our way

Rain, rain go away, come back again another day! OK, I just had to get that out of my system. Finally, as mentioned here the other day, it appears we warm up and dry out for a few days beginning Wednesday.

It won’t be totally sunny and dry the next week or 10 days, but much better than what we have seen so far in April. We certainly can use some dry weather so the soil can warm and dry out. If not, we would be planting rice rather than corn and tomatoes in our gardens.

A little bit of sunny weather would go a long way in lifting everyone’s spirits and get us back in the swing of springtime.

The low-pressure system bringing our gray skies and moisture of late packed a bit more punch on its exit than I thought on Sunday, with moderate rain and gusty southerly winds Sunday night.

Some areas of Western Washington, especially along the coast, have received 12 inches or more of rain so far this month. In Vancouver and much of Clark County, it could not rain at all the remainder of the month and we still would end up close to average for April. Over 3 inches of rain has fallen in Vancouver so far. April 2017 was wet with over 4 inches of rain.

We have had only one day this month where we could call it mostly clear. For nearly three weeks into the month, that is unusual.

I’ll leave you with this. “A gush of bird song, a pitter patter of dew. A cloud and a rainbow’s warning. Suddenly sunshine and perfect blue — an April day in the morning.”
