Go: Camas First Friday, King’s Kruz-In, ‘Creature from the Black Lagoon’

1. Think pink

The outlook is rosy for First Friday in Camas, when Downtown Goes Flamingo! from 5 to 8 p.m. Aug. 3 in the shops, restaurants and art galleries along Northeast Fourth Avenue between Adams and Franklin streets. Activities include outdoor flamingo-themed games and crafts, live music, ribbon-cuttings for local businesses, art shows, free rock painting and frozen pops for kids, and a margarita garden at Nuestra Mesa. 2. Cool cars and hot rods

More than 200 vintage cars and trucks will be revving up and rolling into the parking lot at Glenwood Community Church, 12201 N.E. 72nd Ave., Vancouver, for the 17th annual King’s Kruz-In. Vintage automobile aficionados can drop by any time from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Aug. 4 to appreciate the polished chrome and shiny gleam of these sweet rides–and the impressive horsepower of their well-maintained engines. The fee to register a vehicle is $15, which includes a barbecue lunch. It’s free for spectators, who can also enjoy the live bluegrass band and RC drone racing. 3. Monsters and minifigs

Enjoy one of the greatest “creature features” of all time, the classic 1954 black-and-white film “Creature from the Black Lagoon,” in the air-conditioned comfort of the Kiggins Theatre, 1101 Main St., Vancouver, at noon Aug. 4. This free screening coincides with a Vancouver Toy Junkies vintage toy show in the Kiggins’ lobby from 10 a.m. to noon, where guests can feel the powerful tug of nostalgia while browsing among all kinds of vintage toys and collectibles. 4. Fiddle dee-dee

Rosin up your bow and reel on out to the Washington State Fiddle Championships, happening on The Columbian Stage at the Clark County Fair, 17402 N.E. Delfel Rd., Ridgefield. From 9:45 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Aug. 4 and 5, contestants of all ages will participate in certified divisions, fiddling their way through the rounds to become finalists. The competition culminates on Aug. 5 as the top-ranking fiddlers complete to become the state champion. 5. Some like it hot

Spice things up at the PDX Hot Sauce Expo, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Aug. 4 and 5 in the bridge lot outside OMSI, 1945 S.E. Water Ave., Portland. The expo features the Guinness Book of World Records Carolina Reaper Pepper Eating Contest, Screaming Mi Mi Awards and more. The event will showcase more than 40 handpicked artisanal craft hot sauce makers from around the globe, with free samples and products available for purchase.
