Letter: ‘Voter fraud’ claims don’t check out

By Sandra Cole, VANCOUVER

People who have concerns about voter fraud should check facts more thoroughly. This issue is a partisan myth used to cut legitimate voters from the rolls and support “alternative narratives” about elections.

FactCheck.org is a good non-partisan source: www.factcheck.org/2016/10/trumps-bogus-voter-fraud-claims/.

Following is an excerpt that characterizes the research they have done:

“Richard L. Hasen, a professor of law and political science at the University of California, Irvine School of Law, and author of ‘The Voting Wars,’ referred us to a piece he published on the subject on Slate on Oct. 17, 2016, ‘Voter Fraud: It would be literally insane to try to steal an election in the way Donald Trump is alleging.’ ”

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
