Incumbent Jim Malinowski and challenger Sherry Erickson were advancing to the general election for a seat on the Clark Public Utilities District Board of Commissioners, after Malinowski pulled in 56.2 percent of the vote and Erickson tallied 26.8 percent.

Malinowski received 13,310 of votes cast, followed by Erickson with 6,340 votes, with third candidate Judy Chipman getting 3,897 votes, according to the first vote tally Tuesday night.

Malinowski was first elected in 2012, and worked for 30 years at Pacific Gas & Electric. He was also a power utilities technology instructor at Clark College for eight years, and has a master’s degree in electrical engineering from Texas A&M University and a master’s degree in business from Stanford University.

Erickson is a mechanical engineer, and she runs a small consulting firm with her husband. Erickson worked as a consulting engineer for more than 20 years in design and construction.

Utility commissioners serve six-year terms. The commission sets policy, approves budgets, establishes rates, approves major purchases and investments, and selects a general manager for the utility who executes the commission’s policies.
