Volunteer Opportunities

Volunteer Connections provides opportunities through the Human Services Council. For information on the following, call 360-735-3690.

Clark County Public Works seeks volunteers to pull ivy in county parks to protect our native trees and plants, 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 9 at LeRoy Haagen Park, and Aug. 23 at Tenny Creek Park. Help is also needed to clean up Frenchman’s Bar, 9 a.m. to noon Aug. 25.

Bloodworks Northwest seeks volunteers to manage the appointment schedule or as donor monitors. Flexible shifts are Monday through Saturday. A commitment of three to six hours monthly is required. Training is provided.

Hospice Southwest is looking for visitors, office workers, quilters, drivers, facilitators for Stepping Stone Group (a children’s group), and bereavement phone volunteers. Training is provided.

Lunch Buddy Programs at area schools will be starting soon. Lunch Buddies meet one-on-one with a child needing a positive, caring adult in their lives to share lunch, then spend the rest of lunchtime in the school lunchroom, perhaps playing a game, doing a craft project or puzzle or just talking and listening. Background checks required. A one-year commitment is required.

Vancouver Parks and Recreation seeks volunteers to help count local trail usage for the National Bicycle and Pedestrian Documentation Project. The project will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. Sept. 11-13; and 9 to 11 a.m. Sept. 15.

There will be training, for new volunteers or past volunteers who need a refresher, at Vancouver City Hall and the Clark County Public Works Service Center.
