An Alaska driver stands accused of vehicular assault and other charges after he tried to pass another car on the shoulder on the approach to the Camas Slough bridge.

The resulting crash occurred just after 5 p.m. Friday on eastbound Highway 14 in Camas.

Washington State Patrol troopers say Nikolay N. Mikhayluyk, 27, of Wasilla, Alaska, was driving a silver sedan when he tried to pass a small SUV driven by Wendy M. Fox, 47, of Vancouver. As he was passing her at a high rate of speed on the left shoulder, he clipped her. Her SUV rolled over and ended up on the right shoulder; he struck a light pole.

Fox was reported injured and was taken to a local hospital for examination and treatment.

Mikaylyuk was arrested on suspicion of vehicular assault, felony hit-and-run, drunken driving and third-degree assault. He and two passengers in his vehicle were not reported to be injured.

Both vehicles were reported totaled.
