Letter: Progressive tolerance at its worst

In news stories about Portland protests, reporters only seem to take comments from the protesters about their “cause” but not if they work and, if not, where they get their income. I’d bet most are on public assistance of one program or another.

They throw dangerous items at the police, spit on them, and call them derogatory names. But if police officers attempt to defend themselves against injury or worse, it’s classified as police brutality. Then, once the protesters vacate the premises, they leave junk, human waste and drug needles behind, costing taxpayers thousands of dollars to clean and immunize the area.

If these losers are so conscious of what is right and wrong with society, why can’t they clean up after themselves? Progressive tolerance in Portland is at its worst. Reading The Columbian editorial pages, the progressives want Vancouver to be like Portland — more free stuff for everyone. They haven’t a clue how to pay for these socialistic programs. But they sure like food stamps, Welfare, phony disability and other free stuff. One letter writer had a good idea: Exchange the human chaff of our society for people who want to come here, work and pay taxes.

We encourage readers to express their views about public issues. Letters to the editor are subject to editing for brevity and clarity. Limit letters to 200 words (100 words if endorsing or opposing a political candidate or ballot measure) and allow 30 days between submissions. Send Us a Letter
