Letter: Be very fearful of socialism

Where has socialism been successful for all of its citizenry and government? Without being bolstered by capitalism? These are good thoughts to muse over.

The current public panacea promoted is Bernie Sanders’ Medicare for All. Certain factions promote his plan as a must-do.

The study “The Costs of a National Single-Payer Healthcare System” by the Mercatus Center, 24 pages complete with tables, does spell out (not in fine print) a couple of self-evident quotes. The study is often cited as proof positive that Sanders’ M4A is justified. Or, is it? The abstract offers “Doubling all currently projected federal individual and corporate income tax collections would be insufficient to finance the added federal costs of the plan.” Footnote 47 references Congressional Budget Office material “revenues would be inadequate to fully cover costs” and therefore “payments would be reduced.” The author is a Ph.D.; but, the meaning of these quotes are easily comprehended — no obfuscation there. One can pick out the desirable or the not-so-good statistics. Draw your own conclusion.

Pro or con, check things out. If it sounds too good to be true, it has to be something someone coaxes you to buy in. Buyer beware.
